When Perkins was introduced as chief one year ago, he  said one of his biggest goals was to achieve greater engagement with neighborhoods. He’s walked with community leaders through many of them and says the effort has worked for the most part, bringing down crime rates in many areas.

Perkins says there still a few neighborhoods where such willingness is not as apparent. He says they’ll keep working with people who live in them in efforts to change that.
