Botetourt County’s first-ever Chief of Fire and Emergency Services since September 2014 – Jeff Beckner – was found dead this morning at the age of 57. Beckner, a long time Roanoke Fire-EMS employee before that, was found face down in a shallow creek behind his home. There were no signs of foul play. “This is tough day for Botetourt County and the fire and EMS community,” said County Administrator Gary Larrowe. “Jeff will be greatly missed, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.”
