Virginia International Raceway in Southside will host one of the crown jewels for the International Motor Sports Association this Sunday. The Michelin GT Challenge on Sunday takes place on VIR’s 3.27 mile track, which features 17 turns and 130 feet of elevation changes, at speeds reaching 190 miles per hour. There’s racing all weekend between today and Sunday’s finale; including an autograph session on Saturday. Tickets are now on sale. Three days of racing culminates with the Michelin GT Challenge on Sunday just past noon – a timed, 2 hour-and-45 minute race on a track with 17 turns.
The VIR experience this weekend includes camping, autograph sessions, a fireworks show, live music and NBC’s “The Voice,” contestant Noah Spencer performing tonight and Saturday. Besides Sunday’s main event, sprint racing and historic sportscar racing are on tap. “The King,” NASCAR’s Richard Petty, is scheduled to make an appearance.
