Across the country there are more than 350 “Safe Haven Baby Box” locations, where people can surrender an infant they cannot take care of, and anonymously. Now Carilion Clinic is installing a baby box near its new Crystal Tower emergency room, located near the new emergency at Carilion and a parking garage; look for the “Safe Haven,” sign.
Since 2016, 60 infants have been surrendered nationwide in a Baby Box. Those babies are fostered and adopted locally, with the help of family service agencies. Hospital Chaplain Keith Little gave a blessing at the start of today’s unveiling, 56 years ago HE was adopted. More tomorrow on these “Baby Boxes,” on the Roanoke Valley’s Morning News.
