The 9/11 memorial that once stood at Old Virginia Brick on West Main Street is getting a new home. The 16,000 pound steel beams from the World Trade Center are being refurbished and placed in front of Fire Station One on Market Street in downtown Salem. City officials are holding a ceremony on Friday, September 11 at 11 a.m. at the new site of the monument. Citizens are invited. In 2016, Salem will permanently dedicate the memorial on the 15th anniversary of 9/11 with a formal plaza around the monument.
