After 25 years in the entertainment industry – including stints as head of film movie production company and as a director of a Western Film History museum – its no wonder that the new executive director for the Virginia Museum of Transportation wants to tell a good story. WFIR’s Gene Marrano spoke with Bob Sigman recently:

The new synthetic turf field going in right now at Glenvar High School will benefit much more than the school’s football program. Roanoke County School Board Chair Don Butzer says muddy conditions and concerns over player safety limited the old Glenvar field’s use for soccer. The old track was asphalt; Butzer says it hasn’t hosted any competition in more than a decade, and the new one, he says, can host both dual and regional meets. WFIR’s Evan Jones has more:

Lions, Tigers, and Beers? The Mill Mountain Zoo is throwing another “Acoustic Fest” and will be featuring a local brewery. For the third year in a row, the Mill Mountain Zoo will host the festival where visitors will be able to hear local musicians amongst the animals this coming weekend. WFIR’s Madison Everett has the story:

A team from Loudoun County used a second no-hitter to advance in the Little League World Series. The Southeast region champions, defeated Minnesota 11- 0 yesterday, and have yet to allow a hit in the tournament. Virginia is the sixth team in the tournament’s history to throw multiple no hitters in their first two games. They will face either Hawaii or New Jersey in the U.S. semi-finals on Wednesday.
