Ten years after the Roanoke Valley Vipers left town pro ice hockey will return to the Berglund Center next year. The Southern Professional Hockey League makes it’s debut here next September. A team owned by a group of local and out-of-town parties will play 28 home games. Roanoke Mayor David Bowers says having a pro hockey team back in town will also build momentum for a new ice rink that the club could use for practices as well. Berglund Center General Manager Robyn Schon (who used to work for the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings) helped negotiate the deal. She spoke with WFIR’s Gene Marrano:
