RICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control has awarded five grants for alcohol education and enforcement initiatives on Virginia college and university campuses. Officials say the grants totaling nearly $5,000 will support campus-based educational efforts of student organizations at the College of William & Mary, Randolph-Macon College, Roanoke College, Tidewater Community College and Virginia Commonwealth University. The money will fund programs that encourage safe spring break practices.
This is the first time the agency has offered the College Alcohol Awareness Mini Grants. Student groups were able to apply for a maximum of $1,000 in grant money. The initiative is part of a series of regional one-day conferences for student leaders, college administrators and community advocates that provides workshops and resources on alcohol education and prevention.
