A new study places Virginia among the top states in the nation for reporting crime data to the FBI. According to the report from High Rise Financial, Virginia ranks third overall, with 90% of the state’s law enforcement agencies participating in the FBI’s National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS).
The study analyzed data from states nationwide, highlighting Virginia’s proactive approach to crime data collection, which is essential for tracking trends and supporting effective crime prevention efforts. Rhode Island leads with 96% of its law enforcement agencies reporting to the FBI, followed by Kentucky at 94.47%.
In Virginia, 416 of the state’s 461 law enforcement agencies participate in NIBRS, surpassing the national reporting average of 69%. The only states reporting more consistently than Virginia are Rhode Island and Kentucky.
