Virginia Lottery officials say 5,000 retailers statewide are not enough — or at least not ideal. News/Talk 960’s Evan Jones reports they’re looking for more.
Virginia Lottery Executive Director Paula Otto says overall sales always increase when the number of retailers increases. She says sales may drop slightly at an existing retailer when a new one is added nearby, but overall, there is always a net gain. So the lottery hopes to add about 500 or so new retailers statewide this year in efforts to boost revenue. They’re running pilot programs at a gas station chain and a drug store chain with hopes this alone could lead to most of the Lottery’s desired increase.
