Virginia Lottery Executive Director Paula Otto says overall sales always increase when the number of retailers increases. She says sales may drop slightly at an existing retailer when a new one is added nearby, but overall, there is always a net gain. So the lottery hopes to add about 500 or so new retailers statewide this year in efforts to boost revenue. They’re running pilot programs at a gas station chain and a drug store chain with hopes this alone could lead to most of the Lottery’s desired increase.
