Virginia Lottery officials say 5,000 retailers statewide are not enough — or at least not ideal. News/Talk 960’s Evan Jones reports they’re looking for more.[audio:https://wfirnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/02-25-Lottery-Wrap1-WEB.mp3|titles=02-25 Lottery Wrap1-WEB]
Virginia Lottery Executive Director Paula Otto says overall sales always increase when the number of retailers increases. She says sales may drop slightly at an existing retailer when a new one is added nearby, but overall, there is always a net gain. So the lottery hopes to add about 500 or so new retailers statewide this year in efforts to boost revenue. They’re running pilot programs at a gas station chain and a drug store chain with hopes this alone could lead to most of the Lottery’s desired increase.
