ROANOKE, Va. (AP) _ Two of six men found guilty in connection with the slaying of a Waynesboro reserve police officer are seeking to either have their convictions thrown out or be given a new trial. The Daily Progress reports attorneys for Daniel Mathis and Kweli Uhuru filed documents March 24, saying their clients didn’t receive a fair trial in Capt. Kevin Quick’s shooting death. The men’s attorneys say prosecutors presented hearsay testimony as part of the evidence against the defendants. The body of Quick, who was reported missing on Feb. 1, 2014, was found days later in woods northwest of Richmond. The men, along with Shantai Shelton and Mersadies Shelton, were found guilty in February of murder and kidnapping, among other charges. Two others, Halisi Uhuru and Anthony Stokes, were convicted of racketeering charges.
