The recount requested by David Bowers has ended at the court house in downtown Roanoke and its now official – 45 days after Election Day, current Vice-Mayor Joe Cobb will be Roanoke City’s mayor as of next month, after recount proceedings that took more than 17 hours ended today with Cobb maintaining his lead over former Mayor Bowers.
***Former Mayor David Bowers, who failed to overtake current Vice-Mayor Joe Cobb when the votes for Mayor were recounted, issued a statement today, saying, quote, “I always, ever since I was a candidate for Student Government President at Patrick Henry in 1969, prepare a victory statement and a concession – here’s my heartbreaking concession for today…I will not be available for interviews this afternoon.”
