MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) _ Organizers are kicking off a campaign to raise funds for a proposed medical school in Southside Virginia. The Martinsville Bulletin reports that the campaign aims to raise $54 million to $58 million to develop the medical school in Martinsville. The Integrative Centers for Science and Medicine plans to buy three buildings in uptown Martinsville, along with several acres of land, for the medical school. The organization is the nonprofit arm of the College of Henricopolis School of Medicine. Integrative Centers for Science and Medicine president Dr. Noel Boaz says the medical school has received pre-accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. The committee is the governing body that grants accreditation to medical schools. The goal is to open the medical school by February 2017.
