From Roanoke County Police: At 2:07 p.m. Monday, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office alerted Roanoke County Police of a reckless driver traveling northbound on 221 into Roanoke County. A 1997 purple Ford, 4-door, had reportedly wrecked in someone’s front yard then began traveling down 221. A description of the vehicle and tag number were provided to police and they were able to identify the owner of the vehicle and home address. Roanoke County officers fell in behind the vehicle and initiated their emergency lights but the driver would not stop. Officers observed the vehicle weaving and crossing into on-coming traffic. They began a low-speed pursuit down 221 toward Electric Road. The driver ran two red lights, turned left onto Electric Road towards Salem. Officers used stop sticks to deflate the tires, slowing the vehicle down. The driver turned right onto Cordell Drive, lost control of the vehicle and struck a vehicle parked in a driveway in the 4700 block of Cordell Drive. The driver was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police are seeking DUI and reckless driving charges.
