Update: Voting rights advocates are voicing opposition to an executive order from Governor Glenn Youngkin that ,they say, has removed eligible voters from voter rolls prior to election day. WFIR’s Clark Palmer explains.
Previous: Voting rights advocates held a press conference this morning to speak out against Governor Glenn Youngkin’s Executive Order 35, which he says removes groups including non-citizens that have accidentally or maliciously attempted to register to vote. Muhammad Gula , with Emgage Virginia, says Youngkin’s executive order is removing US citizens and taking away their right to vote.
The Virginia Coalition for Immigrant Rights, the League of Women Voters Virginia, and US Department of Justice have filed lawsuits against the Youngkin Administration in response to the executive order.The governor recently defended his order saying it is common sense and Virginia law requires officials to remove individuals who self-identify at the DMV as noncitizens from voter rolls.
