An attorney for the Roanoke County School Board has issued a written statement to attorney Melvin Williams – he is representing former Catawba district School Board member Thomas McCracken. The letter states that McCracken was not forced or coerced to resign before his wife was promoted to an assistant principal’s position at Northside High School. The Board’s letter also says McCracken may have violated the “State and Local Government Conflicts of Interest Act” by discussing that possible promotion with other board members, the superintendent and school board employees. McCracken has threatened legal action to regain his seat – now the School Board is referring the matter to the Commonwealth’s Attorney for review.
