Write in candidate for Roanoke City Mayor Martin Jeffrey held a joint press conference today with Roanoke Coalition Latina and the Southwest Virginia Dreamers. It was in response to a recent discussion among candidates for City Council and subsequent comments by U.S. Congressman Bob Goodlatte on Roanoke as a sanctuary city. Jeffrey says becoming a sanctuary city will not stop the federal government from apprehending illegal immigrants – but it will help local police fight crime. Jeffrey says we need to press our federal leaders to tell the whole story and not accept their political posturing.
