A retired NASA analyst and former Roanoke resident who was one of the first to warn of a problem with the space shuttle’s solid rocket boosters is reflecting today on the 30th anniversary of the Challenger disaster. Richard Cook later wrote a book called “Challenger Revealed. ” Cook warned of a possible problem with the solid rocket boosters – and the infamous O-rings – more than 6 months before Challenger blew up shortly after takeoff 30 years ago today.
