An overnight Ferrum College campus lockdown has been lifted and students are asked to resume normal activities. Just before 6:00 a.m. officials said students were free to move around campus as usual and that exams would proceed as scheduled. Ferrum College Police, Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies and Virginia State Police continue to investigate an attempted armed robbery and robbery of a wallet at gunpoint last night. Campus police responded to the first call around 9:15. The second call came in while police were taking the first report.

Ferrum College is on lockdown. The school issued alerts to students, faculty and staff at 10:22 p.m. Thursday that a student reported an attempted robbery with a possible weapon near Riddick Hall. At that time, officials only asked the Ferrum community to stay inside, be alert and report suspicious activity to police. Shortly after 11:00 p.m., the college locked down campus. The most recent alert says there is a person with a gun, stay inside and lock doors. There has not been any word from officials or police since then. WFIR will have updates as we have more details, but the latest word is that the campus is still on lockdown.
