Dynax America’s parent company is based in northern Japan, but it is located far enough from the quake to escape harm. Botetourt County plant manager Gene Bowden says the corporate headquarters phones are out, but some e-mails are getting through. Bowden says the dozen or so corporate employees from Japan who live and work here are on the job today, but they are being afforded whatever time or assistance they need in their efforts to contact relatives. More than 350 people work at the Dynax America plant near Daleville, where the company manufactures parts for automatic transmissions. It is Botetourt County’s largest private employer.
