The owner of the area’s Bojangle’s franchises says it’s simply of matter of requiring all businesses to follow the same rules. That’s why he’s appealing the recent Salem approval of a site plan for a Chik-fil-A nearby. But city officials say the application meets all city requirements. WFIR’s Evan Jones has more.

A zoning administrator has okayed the Chik-fil-A site plan in the KMart parking lot on West Main Street. But Bojangle’s owner Stan Seymour says the plan contains several exemptions to Salem’s business ordinance that he and others have followed, things like landscaping, setback and parking spaces. Salem Planning Department officials say they believe the Chik-fil-A application meets all city rules.
