(Bedford County release) September 07, 2018, Bedford County 911 received a call from 1034 River Oak Dr. at 11:44 p.m.by a male subject stating that his roommate had been shot. Bedford County Sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene at 11:50 p.m. and found a male subject in the floor with multiple gunshots to his body. Deputies started CPR until Rescue arrived and took over. Aaron Robert Brumfield, age 22, 1034 River Oak Dr. Forest Va. was pronounced deceased by the rescue squad at 12:06 am. The witness stated that three people came into the house and gunfire was exchanged hitting the male victim. The witness stated that the suspects then ran out the side door.

UPDATE: A Roanoke man was indicted this week in connection with the death of his grandmother. Roanoke Police say officers found 64-year-old Charlotte Brewster  badly beaten last week at an apartment near William Fleming High School. She died the next day. 20-year-old Dontae Brown is currently charged with malicious wounding, but officials say the investigation is not complete.

From Roanoke Police: Dontae Brown was indicted on September 4th, and is now also charged with Malicious Wounding in relation to the August 29th incident and Aggravated Malicious Wounding in relation to the August 30th incident. Both of these charges are related to the incidents leading to the homicide of Charlotte Brewster, who is Brown’s grandmother. He was served at the Roanoke City Jail on September 5th. These incidents are still under investigation.

PREVIOUS: Roanoke Police say a 64-year-old woman is dead, and a 20-year-old relative is jailed, the result of an assault last week. Police say they were called Thursday  to an apartment complex along Ferncliff Avenue – near William Fleming High School – where they found Charlotte Brewster and Dontae Brown in a bedroom. Brewster was taken for hospital treatment, but she died Friday, and her death is now ruled a homicide. Dontae Brown is jailed for violating a protective order involving the two.

From Roanoke Police: On August 30, 2018 at about 11:30 am, Roanoke Police responded to 3533 Ferncliff Avenue NW regarding a well-being check on a resident. On arrival, Roanoke Fire-EMS were on scene as well and getting no response from the resident. Officers made entry and located Charlotte Brewster, age 64 of Roanoke, in a bedroom along with Dontae Brown, age 20 of Roanoke. Brewster had injuries consistent with an assault. Brown was placed under arrest for violation of a protective order for a prior incident involving Brewster and Brown. Brewster was transported by Roanoke Fire-EMS to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment. Brown was transported to the Roanoke City Jail and charged with Malicious Wounding and Violation of a Protective Order. On August 31st , Roanoke Police were notified that Brewster had passed away. On September 1st, an autopsy was performed at the Medical Examiner’s Office, and Brewster’s death was ruled a Homicide. Detectives and Forensics Investigators are continuing to investigate this incident. Brewster and Brown are related.

News release: On August 30, 2018, a Bedford County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a Chevrolet S10 pickup truck on Thomas Jefferson Road for multiple traffic violations. The driver of the truck gave the deputy a false identification. While the deputy was attempting to identify the driver, he fled on foot in the area of Thomas Jefferson Rd and Everett Rd. The driver was later identified as Dustin Wayne Gilliam and the investigation revealed he has ties to Amherst County, Campbell County, and Raleigh NC. Dustin Gilliam, age 27, is wanted in Amherst County for probation violation for malicious wounding. He is also wanted in Bedford County for multiple charges.

Roanoke City fire officials say an electrical problem started last night’s house fire on the 4300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. Damage is estimated at $130,000. More than two dozen firefighters were summoned to battle the flames, and officials say they needed about 90 minutes to get the fire under control. There are no injuries reported.

From Roanoke Fire-EMS: The cause of the fire in the 4300 block of Pennsylvania Ave. has been ruled as electrical and did approximately $130,000 in damages. No one was injured. Our crews received the call from the E-911 Center last night around 9:50pm and the fire was under control by 11:22pm. 28 personnel responded to the scene.

WARRENTON, Va. (AP) _ Authorities in Virginia say a man was charged with murder after his sister was found dead in an inflatable pool. The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office issued a news release saying that deputies found the woman dead in the inflatable pool Saturday on the rear deck of a home. Deputies determined that there had been a physical altercation at the home, where the woman lived. Another relative found her dead and called 911. The Sheriff’s Office said the victim was 53-year-old Angie A. Walls of Warrenton. The cause of death is being investigated through a pending autopsy. The news release said detectives charged her brother 51-year-old Ashton Dunlap Berry with first degree murder. He was being held without bond. The public defender’s office didn’t immediately respond to a message left over the holiday weekend asking if one of its lawyers would represent Berry.

News release: Since August 4, Roanoke County Police have received reports  of larcenies from vehicles occurring in the area of Carvins Cove and other parking areas along the Appalachian Trail in Roanoke County. Of the four reports, there are 23 victims. Wallets, purses and phones were taken from the vehicles, all of which were locked. There are no descriptions of suspects at this time. Police would like to remind citizens not to leave valuable items in their vehicles, and ensure the vehicles are locked before heading out to enjoy a hike along the trail.  Anyone with information related to these incidents is asked to call Detective Musser at (540) 777‐8641.

A Bedford man faces child sex abuse charges. The County Sheriff’s Office says 35-year-old Adam Davis was arrested yesterday. Officials say the investigation began in May when child protective services contacted investigators.

News release: On May 25, 2018, Bedford County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from Bedford County Child Protective Services in reference to a possible sexual abuse case. That same day a Bedford County Sheriff’s investigator along with an investigator with Bedford County Child Protective Services  interviewed the possible victim. The investigation was ongoing. On August 29, 2018, Adam D. Davis, age 35, of Bedford was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated sexual battery and three counts of custodial sexual abuse. Davis is being held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail on no bond.
