The first wave of those so-called “dockless” electric scooters arrived in Roanoke this morning. Riders must be 18 and older; they can try them for free today and then the company will launch a fleet that will total 400 available scooters by the following weekend. There are restrictions as to where they can be ridden – not on sidewalks or on greenways for example. Chris Robbins is the Virginia senior operations manager for Lime, a major player in the scooter market, which hosted a “First Ride” event at Lee Plaza downtown.

It was 10 years ago today that 20-year-old Morgan Harrington went missing after leaving a concert by herself in Charlottesville. Her parents Gil and Dan Harrington picked up the pieces somehow – and today they were live in-studio with WFIR’s Gene Marrano to reflect on Morgan’s legacy:

Restoration Housing officially kicked off the non-profit’s fourth historic rehabilitation today, this time on Dale Avenue in Southeast Roanoke. The 120 year old-plus Queen Anne style home was once home to a mayor of Roanoke but had fallen into disrepair. Isabell Thornton is executive director for Restoration Housing. Thornton says they will invest about $500,000 into the project and will recoup some of those costs through historic tax credits in the new Belmont District. The end result will be four affordable apartments for those transitioning out of homelessness.
