Virginia residents having unwanted contact with wildlife can now call a new conflict helpline. Help is available Monday through Friday at (855) 571-9003 from 8:00 am to 4:30pm from the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. WLNI/WFIR’s Bob Clark has the story.

Roanoke fire officials say this morning’s fire on Hanover Avenue was accidental, the apparent result of an overloaded electrical circuit. Two people inside got out, thanks at least in part to working smoke alarms. This is the latest in a series of recent area fires that appear connected to the arrival of colder weather, and as WFIR’s Bob Clark reports, that is keeping the Red Cross busy.
There’s another warning from the Better Business Bureau. During October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, companies are taking advantage of consumers with a scam called “Pinkwashing”. The local Better Business Bureau says check out all claims before making a contribution. WLNI/WFIR’s Bob Clark has the story.

Roanoke City residents can now view the proposed storm water utility fee online. The city is asking for feedback as the City Council looks to make a decision this fall. WFIR’s Bob Clark has story.

Motorists in the Roanoke area are continuing to see lower gasoline prices. AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the price of a gallon of unleaded gas has dropped 44 cents a gallon since February. AAA also reports if the turmoil continues in the Middle East, the 6 cents a gallon state tax reduction may not mean an overall drop in prices at the pump. WFIR’s Bob Clark has the story.
