The Salem Police Department responded to the 1400 block of East Main Street yesterday in reference to a pedestrian, who reportedly had been struck by a motorist. Police determined that a 62-year-old male was attempting to cross the street from the Goodwill parking lot to Lakeside Plaza when he was struck by a driver. The man was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening. Police say the man was not using the crosswalk when he was hit. No charges have been placed against the driver of the vehicle at this time, but the incident remains under investigation.
