RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s administration is warning public universities that they might need to prepare for a 7.5 percent decrease in state funding. Chief of Staff Paul Reagan sent a letter to the universities on Tuesday, telling them of a possible reduction in state funding. The letter was obtained by The Roanoke Times through the Virginia Freedom of Information Act request. State funding mostly pays for personnel and general functions of a university. The letter comes after the state found a $1.5 billion budget shortfall this year.
