Virginia State Police will be increasing patrols on Route 220 from Troutville to Iron Gate due to a recent uptick in traffic crashes. During the month of June, state police investigated 10 traffic crashes on Route 220 in Botetourt County. The majority of them involved only damage to vehicles; but two of the accidents were fatal. Most of the traffic crashes happened after 4:30 p.m., and the most common causes for the crashes were drivers not paying attention and reckless driving. During the increased patrols, troopers will be focusing on speeders and reckless drivers. If you’re driving along Route 220 state police want to remind you to remain alert to turning and slowing traffic, never drive distracted or drunk, always buckle up and obey the speed limit.
