Roanoke County Fire and Rescue responded on New Years Eve around 8pm to the 200 block of Foxland Avenue in Vinton to a residential structure fire, which was brought under control in about 20 minutes. The home was occupied by 2 adults and 47 cats at the time of the fire, which reportedly is a cat rescue operation as well. There were no injuries to humans and any cats. The couple will be displaced. The Roanoke County Fire Marshals Office later reported the fire was accidental and due to discarded smoking material. Total damage estimates are around $100,000 dollars.
