Last year more than 600 children in the Roanoke City Public School system were identified as having experienced homelessness or housing insecurity. This afternoon as the new academic year gets underway, students in that category will be eligible to receive a backpack filled with food and school supplies. More from WFIR’s Gene Marrano:
