Virginia Tech Today hosts Eddie Amos and Kim Blair

Dr. Michael Friedlander wears several hats – he’s Executive Director of the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion in Roanoke, and Vice President of Health Services and Technology at Virginia Tech. Several weeks ago he announced that both Tech campuses would start testing patient samples for COVID-19 – now they are developing a test for coronavirus antibodies:

An aggregation of employment forecasts from national databases and economists that was analyzed by the online financial firm MoneyGeek shows Roanoke area unemployment levels peaking at 29 percent, with almost 46,000 out of work – most of that coronavirus related. Hillary Adler is MoneyGeek’s Director of Content Marketing. Adler says Monday’s announcement about a Phase 1 reopening of Virginia businesses means that unemployment forecast will be adjusted – although the Roanoke College graduate now working in New York City says the numbers will remain high in the near future.

Maynard Keller

Northwest Roanoke resident and financial planner Maynard Keller says Roanoke City Council doesn’t listen to its citizens – and that has prompted him to announce a bid for office as a Republican candidate. Council’s failure to vote on a Second Amendment Sanctuary resolution and the decision to move municipal elections to November during federal election years were tipping points. Keller’s Council campaign platform includes creating a focus team of small business owners to advise the city, and solidifying Roanoke’s emergency management plan to address the current and future crises. He joins Peg McGuire in announcing runs today for Roanoke City Council on the Republican ticket.
