Long-time Roanoke activist and current City Council candidate E. Duane Howard says a source in Governor McAuliffe’s office tells him Deschutes Brewery is indeed coming to the Roanoke area, and a formal announcement is expected in the next few weeks. We have no confirmation from government officials or from the Oregon brewer. Roanoke has been competing with Asheville, North Carolina to land Deschutes’ first east-coast location. Deschutes will participate in this coming Saturday’s Big Lick For the Love of the Brew Beer Fest at the Berglund Center, but we have received no indications that any announcement may be forthcoming at that time. The company says it hopes to have an official announcement by the end of this month.
