A Roanoke company that makes prosthetics is looking after one of its newest patients — a four-legged one. “Stitches” is a 15-year-old donkey who lost a hoof after an accident. WFIR’s Evan Jones has the story.

Stitches lost his right rear hoof several years ago when his foot was caught under a fence board. The hoof became infected as a result of that injury and required its amputation. The Virginia Tech veterinarian school contacted Virginia Prosthetics in Roanoke and asked if it would be able to make an artificial hoof. The company says Stitches was very cooperative, which made things much easier, and it was able to create a prosthesis that allows the donkey to once again put full weight on all four hooves.
