Jefferson College of Health Sciences in downtown Roanoke will become part of Radford University. Those merger plans were formally announced today. The Carilion-owned college and Radford expect to take up to two years to complete the process, one that will combine a private college with a public university. The two schools have a long history of collaboration dating back about three decades. Current Jefferson College president N.L. Bishop looks forward to leading the new joint venture.
The Roanoke Railyard Dawgs are home again at the Berglund Center tomorrow night to face a team they’ve seen a lot this season – Fayetteville. The Marksmen drubbed the Dawgs 4 to 1 in Fayetteville last Saturday. Roanoke head coach Dan Bremner says that should be a motivator. Last Friday at home however the Rail Yard Dawgs beat Fayetteville 5 to 2. Game time tomorrow night at the Berglund Center is 7:05. hear a complete conversation with Dan Bremner below:
During our recent in-studio conversation with northwest Roanoke activist Martin Jeffrey he talked about the sale of the historic mansion in Villa Heights Park to a non-profit that wants to renovate and then lease it to another non-profit offering youth programs. After hearing that interview Boys and Girls Club executive director Michelle Dykstra told WFIR that NO contract has been signed to lease that property – saying that other groups can still submit bids to lease the mansion once it is renovated. Dykstra – also a City Council member – says Boys and Girls did sign a non-binding “memorandum of understanding” with Restoration Housing, which needed to demonstrate that there was interest in leasing the property, in order to secure a loan.
