House Republicans in Richmond are still holding out hope that the Senate will approve a bill to end tenure job protection for Virginia public school teachers. More from WFIR’s Evan Jones.

The Senate voted down its version of the tenure bill Tuesday. But since the House approved its version earlier this week and sent it to the Senate, the bill may get a second consideration there.
Bill opponents say effective mechanisms are already in place to identify and dismiss poor teachers, and several said the bill would disproportionately impact poorer areas of the state where low salaries already make attracting teachers difficult.
The tenure bill is part of Governor McDonnell’s proposed education overhaul.
