A ribbon-cutting celebration is planned this morning in Downtown Roanoke; the first phase of Center In The Square’s renovation in complete. The three-story Phelps and Armstead building known as Center on Church hs been completely renovated. After the 10:00 ceremony at 20 Church Avenue, guided tours will be available from 11:00 to 4:00. Heavy travel travel is expected later this week at the Roanoke Regional Airport. College students will be leaving for the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, and this Friday is typically the busiest day of the year for air travel. More from WFIR’s Bob Clark.

A new Virginia specialty license plate is now available for pre-order. The new plate will support education, outreach and partnerships to enhance Virginia’s community trees. The plate features a community skyline enhanced by trees and is designed to raise awareness of community trees.  WFIR’s Bob Clark has more on the story.

A fun time of the year for youngsters is coming Monday, and public safety officials want it to remain fun. Halloween can also be a dangerous time when children go from house to house. DMV officials report in Virginia alone, 308 accidents occured on  Halloween night last year, including three fatalities. More of the story from WFIR’s Bob Clark.

Officials in the New River and Roanoke Valley’s have launched a new program to help people and business save energy and money. The multimedia “Save a Ton” campaign encourages people to get tips on saving energy, saving money at their homes and sharing ideas on social media. WFIR’s Bob Clark reports.

AAA warns gas prices may continue to rise in coming months.  In the past two weeks, pump prices have has started to inch up, and the AAA reports this trend may continue into the later part of the year because of instability in the world. Details from WFIR’s Bob Clark.

A newly-released poll from Roanoke College finds religion continues to be very important to most Virginians. The poll was conducted earlier this month by The Institute For Policy and Opinion Research at the Salem School. WFIR’s Bob Clark reports.

More and more airline passengers are using Roanoke Regional Airport. Passenger usage at the airport for the past nine months increased 3.7%, and the airport has shown a rise in passengers for 16 consecutive months.  More on this story from WFIR’s Bob Clark.
