The following is a release from Roanoke County Police: Police are asking for the public’s help with identifying a man who stole a car from the Walmart parking lot on Challenger Ave. Images of the suspect were captured by the store’s surveillance camera and detectives hope someone can identify the man so that the victim’s car, a 2011 black Kia Forte, can be returned. The car had less than 7,000 miles on it

Roanoke Police are about to increase the number of motorcycle units assigned full-time to traffic enforcement — from one to four. Police Chief Chris Perkins says this will permit the department to assign one such officer to each quadrant of the city. WFIR’s Evan Jones has the story.

Mayor Bowers greets Kohl's shoppers

The three-day “soft opening” is over. Kohl’s new Roanoke store is “officially” open as of 7:00 am today, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony. About 50 shoppers were lined up outside the store as Congressman Bob Goodlatte and Roanoke Mayor David Bowers offered brief welcoming speeches. WFIR’s Evan Jones was there.
