Roanoke-PoliceFrom Roanoke City Police: On September 4th, 2014 at 11:12 p.m. Officers from the Roanoke Police Department responded to a third party call for a domestic dispute at 801 Hartsook Blvd. S.E. Officers were aware of a previous history at this address and the individual involved was known to have a documented history of substance abuse and mental issues. The caller, who was not at the residence, advised that the female in the home had been physically assaulted by her boyfriend named “Andrew” in the residence and that the female was not answering her phone. Upon arrival, officers first encountered the female individual alleged to have been the victim in the domestic dispute. The female at the residence advised the officers that the argument was not physical and that Graninger had been drinking alcohol. She directed officers to a male individual, Andrew Lee Graninger, age 22, who lived at the residence. Officers noticed that Graninger appeared intoxicated, but he remained inside the residence during the initial encounter.

Franklin-County-UpdateThe Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is looking for two suspects who attempted to break into one business and may have burglarized another. Surveillance video captured two individuals trying to break into the Whistle Stop shortly before 1 a.m. today. The sheriff’s office says that during the investigation, Jeds Country Store was burglarized minutes later. These businesses are located in the Penhook area of the county. If you recognize the two suspects in the picture or know any information, you are encouraged to contact Investigator Nolen at 540-483-3000.

VDOT-Elm-DesignAs part of Roanoke’s I-581 and Elm Avenue interchange project, crews will be putting a new traffic pattern in place. Beginning tomorrow morning, the eastbound lanes of Elm will be moved to the newly constructed portion of the bridge over I-581. Westbound lanes will remain the same. To achieve the new traffic pattern, left lane closures are planned for east and westbound Elm Avenue today and tomorrow from 8 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the following morning. The southbound on-ramp to I-581 will be closed tonight from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. tomorrow.

Road-Work-AheadThere are day and night-time lane closures scheduled again this week and next for the Valley View Boulevard interchange project in Roanoke. The right southbound lane of I-581 will be closed between Hershberger Road and Valley View Boulevard from noon today through Saturday and next Monday through Friday. The right and center lanes will be closed each night from 10 p.m. until 8 a.m. the following morning.

Roanoke-PoliceFrom Roanoke City Police: On August 29, 2014 at 11:46 a.m. Roanoke Police were dispatched to the 1400 block of Peters Creek Road NW, the Boxley Hills Barber Shop, to investigate a robbery. The victim, the owner of the barber shop, said the suspect walked into the business, displayed a firearm, and demanded money. After taking an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect left the business on foot. The suspect was described as a black male in his early to mid 20s, thin build, approximately 5’9″, with short hair and facial hair only on his chin. The suspect was wearing a black tee shirt , khaki colored pants, and blue sneakers with an orange color around the soles. If you have any information that can help investigators, call the Roanoke Valley Crime Line at 540-344-8500. Tips are anonymous and awards are offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.

From the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office: The office is investigating a forgery and uttering that recently occurred. During the course of the investigation it was discovered that the same female suspect is responsible for similar crimes in Waynesboro, Chesterfield, and the Town of Bedford. These crimes with this suspect have been occurring since June 2014. The suspect appears to be intercepting legitimate business, in this case, Forest Foot and Ankle, checks from the mail and in one case, a private drop box. The suspect then alters the check to reflect a fake name. She then takes the checks to a bank and cashes them.

The suspect has used the following names and fake I.D.’s in these crimes:

1-       Tabitha Leigh Williams, 4552 Brookgreen Dr. West Columbia, SC 29169; SC DL 85185749

2-       Jennifer Cauthen, 3024 Anchorbrook Dr. Bellefontaine, OH 43311; Oh ID 9404951281

3-       Keandra Ellen Duncan; address 3225 Centerfield Dr. Cincinnati, OH 45201, Oh ID OHTL951402

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office at 540-586-7827 or Central Virginia Crime Stoppers at 1-888-798-5900. Crime Stoppers callers remain anonymous and could receive a cash reward to up $1,000 for information that solves the crime.

UPDATE:  Roanoke County police reported this was all clear at 7:56 a.m.  All roads were open.  The bomb threat remains under investigation.

Roanoke County Police are currently responding to a report of a bomb threat at the CVS at the corner of Williamson and Plantation Roads. The call came in at 6:25 a.m. It has affected traffic on Williamson Road from Plantation Road south to Dent Road.

Roanoke-PoliceFrom Roanoke City Police: On August 27, 2014 at 10 p.m. Roanoke Police were dispatched to a disorder call in the 2000 block of Mountain View Terrace SW.  While responding to the call, officers were advised that the call had been upgraded to a gunshot wound.  Officers found the victim, a 38-year-old man from Roanoke, on the sidewalk with what appeared to be a single gunshot wound.  The victim was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with a non-life threatening injury.  Several witnesses provided officers with a suspect description. Responding officers located an individual nearby matching the description of the suspect in the shooting. He was positively identified by witnesses, arrested, and subsequently interviewed.  The weapon suspected to have been used in the shooting was recovered. The suspect was identified as Marquis Deshay Staples, age 19, of Roanoke. After further investigation officers charged Staples with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.  He was taken to Roanoke City Jail.

Roanoke-PoliceOn August 28, 2014, Roanoke police arrested Christopher Trevon Spencer, age 22, of Roanoke, and Devan Rashawn Blake, age 18, of Roanoke on charges of robbery.  Spencer was charged with two counts of robbery. These charges are related to the robbery of a pizza delivery driver in the 1500 block of Bluemont Avenue SW on July 16th and a separate robbery of a food delivery driver on August 20th in the same block of Bluemont Avenue. Blake was charged with one count of robbery related to the pizza delivery driver incident on July 16th. Both men were taken to the Roanoke City Jail.
