From the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office: Late Sunday night, 6/7/’15, and, in the early morning hours of Monday, 6/8/’15, members of the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, Vice Unit, with the priceless and ‘above and beyond’ assistance from DEA, Virginia State Police, Roanoke Police Department  and the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (“HIDTA”) Task Force arrested:Jesse Ray Little, 5670 Johnson Mountain Road, Huddleston, VA 23104, DOB-01/01/1959. The arrest took place in the western portion of Bedford County and was supported by the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office Tact Team.

centerThe Roanoke Pinball Museum is an interactive museum where visitors can play with any machine for one admission price. General admission for the summer is $10 for individuals 9 and older and free for children 8 and younger. Year-long memberships are available for individuals for $75 and a household membership, which is 2 adults and up to 4 children, is $125. Members receive year-long access to the museum, the ability to play in league competitions on Tuesday nights, invitations to special member events, and discounts on merchandise, concessions and museum rentals. If you buy a membership before June 19 it will cost $50 for an individual and $85 for a family. The museum is located on the second floor of Center in the Square. The museum’s grand opening is scheduled for June 19 from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

06-08 SuspectRoanoke Police arrested 35-year-old Michael Harrison without incident yesterday. He was served with warrants for attempted residential burglary and petit larceny in relation to an incident on May 18 in the 3700 block of Dogwood Lane SW. Harrison was taken to the Roanoke City Jail.

BedfordCountyA Lynchburg-area businessman and Bedford County community leader died Friday after he was found trapped under a truck. The Sheriff’s Office says it happened on Terrace View Road in Goode. 54-year-old Gary Sims died at the scene. Sims was the owner of Lynchburg Collision and Cedar Creek Farm.

VDOT-LogoAs part of the ongoing work at the Valley View Interchange project on Interstate 581, lane closures and slow rolls will be in place this week, weather permitting, as the beams for the pedestrian bridge are erected as the pedestrian bridge construction begins. On Monday, June 8, I-581 southbound will have a left lane closure in place from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning with intermittent 15-minute long slow rolls. On Tuesday, June 9, I-581 southbound will be detoured onto exit 3W, Hershberger Road to take Valley View Boulevard back to I-581 southbound. The Hershberger Road eastbound on ramp to I-581 southbound will be closed from 10 a.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. I-581 northbound will have a left lane closure from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. On Wednesday, June 10, I-581 northbound will be detoured onto exit 3C for Valley View Boulevard to Hershberger West to get back onto I-581 northbound from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. I-581 southbound will have a left lane closure from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. On Thursday, June 11, Interstate 581 northbound and southbound will have double left lane closures in place from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning with intermittent 15-minute long slow rolls.

Roanoke-County-LogoAccording to a Roanoke County spokesperson, on May 15, Carla Bream went to the Roanoke County Commissioner of the Revenue’s office to discuss a tax dispute.  Bream told police that during a discussion with Commissioner Nancy Horn, Horn pushed her out the door and into a wall. The officer on the scene interviewed Bream, Horn and witnesses, as well as reviewed surveillance footage of the alleged assault. After the investigation, the officer determined that there was not enough evidence to charge Horn with assault. On Tuesday, Bream filed her own charges against Horn, and yesterday Horn was issued a summons on an assault and battery charge.

From Angels of Assisi: Angels of Assisi assisted Mercer County, WV animal control in the seizure of over 50 Maltese mix dogs from a single dwelling. Angels of Assisi took 28 of the dogs to be rehabilitated and placed up for adoption. These dogs have never been outside or seen sunlight. They have mats in their fur full of feces and urine. Angels of Assisi volunteers and staff have spent the last 2 days bathing grooming and providing medical care to all of the new arrivals.

From Central Virginia Crimestoppers: Between 5/8/15 and 5/11/15, an unknown person or persons entered the property at 1437 Dickerson Rd. Goodview, Virginia and entered several storage buildings and stole the following items: a Northern Star fertilizer spreader 40 gallon tank w/electric sprayer, Craftsman 2 wheel utility trailer, small white refrigerator, craftsman toolboxes with miscellaneous tools, Dewalt construction radio, Bush Hog Squealer 6ft deck in Kubota-orange, post hole augers, 3 pt. hitch for augers, harrow discs, manure spreader brown in color. State-NewsFrom the Virginia Department of Health: (Richmond, Va.) — Governor Terry McAuliffe today announced the completion of a two-year, public-private collaboration between the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and Ancestry that fully digitizes the state’s vital records. To date, more than 16 million records have been digitized and indexed. Scanned images of the original, public* documents are available online through Ancestry.com. Access to the indexed information on the records is available free of charge through the VDH Division of Vital Records’ and the Library of Virginia’s websites. “This public-private project demonstrates Virginia’s continued commitment to innovation, efficiency and leveraging information technology to the benefit of all,” said Governor Terry McAuliffe. “Having all Virginia vital records digitized mean millions of public birth, death, marriage and divorce records are now more easily accessed for genealogy and family history research. This project also provides a long-term conservation solution for preserving the rich history of Virginia’s people.”
