From the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office: On Saturday afternoon, May 30, 1015, a Bedford County Sheriff’s deputy was transporting a female to the Bedford Adult Detention Center, when she kicked the back door window glass out of his patrol vehicle. The female, Kristin N. Forbes, age 26, had been arrested at the Smith Mountain Lake State Park by a park police officer for public intoxication. The arresting officer requested a police vehicle with a cage to transport her. After kicking the window glass out, she attempted to escape out of the broken window. As the deputy attempted to restrain her she assaulted him. A second sheriff’s deputy responded to the scene and she was placed in the sheriff’s office transport van. Kristin N. Forbes, of Lynchburg, was charged with public intoxication, obstruction of justice (resist arrest), destruction of property and assault on a police officer.

Roanoke-County-Logo The Roanoke County Police Department and the Roanoke County Sheriff’s Office say they are again receiving numerous complaints in reference to the jury duty scam. What happens is, a person claiming to be a Roanoke County Sheriff’s Deputy calls you to tell you you’ve missed jury duty and there’s now a warrant out for your arrest. The person will then say if you want to avoid going to jail you need to buy a Green Dot card and give them the number off of the card. Investigators want to remind you that law enforcement would not solicit any type of payment. If you receive one of these calls you should call the Criminal Investigations Division of the Roanoke County Police at 540-777-8641, the Emergency Communication Center at 540-562-3265 or the Roanoke Valley Crime Line at 540-344-8500.

Do LunchThe LOA is taking orders now for its popular “Let’s Do Lunch” fundraiser. Director of Senior Services Shannon Abell says all the money raised from the $15 box lunches will go to to the LOA’s Meals on Wheels. He says that program was hard-hit last year by sequestration budget cuts.

“We had to drop 100 eligible seniors from our routes,” he said. “Now we’ve been able to get back about 25, but we are frozen right now at 600 seniors.”

“Let’s Do Lunch” is Friday June 19, and it’s available for eat-in, pickup or free delivery for orders of five lunches or more. The deadline for setting that up is Friday, June 5. Here’s the link to an order form.
