Roanoke Police Chief Chris Perkins wants his officers be more than just enforcers, even though that remains a necessary part of the job.   He has now spent alost seven months at the top, first as acting chief before his appointment in October. As News/Talk 960’s Evan Jones reports, Perkins believes the more officers can do beyond arresting and confronting, the more crime rates can go down:

The Mount Pleasant First Aid Crew is no more, disbanding because they no longer had enough volunteers to handle emergency calls. Paid professional staff will now handle all rescue calls in that part of Roanoke County. But Roanoke City still has a volunteer rescue squad, and it’s seeking contributions to pay for a new piece of equipment. News/Talk 960’s Evan Jones has the story.
