From Roanoke City Police:  On August 9, 2015 at 8:27 a.m., Roanoke Police were dispatched to the 1600 block of Bennington Street SE after a woman reported being grabbed by a stranger while she was jogging on the greenway. The victim was able to free herself from the suspect and ran away. She was not seriously hurt in the incident. Officers immediately set up a perimeter and conducted a search using a canine but the suspect was not located. The suspect was described as a white male in his early 20s, wearing a brown tee shirt, blue jeans, and square framed eye glasses. The suspect is between 5’8” to 5’10”, and weighs approximately 160 pounds. Pictures of an individual matching the description of the described suspect are below.

Botetourt Co. Fire-EMS

From Botetourt County Fire & EMS: Daleville, VA – At 3:34 units from Troutville were dispatched to the Tinker Mountain area just off of Interstate 81 Exit 150 for a report of a fire on top of the mountain. First arriving units found there to be a red glow and obvious fire atop the mountain. Additional resources from Botetourt County and the Department of Forestry are on scene. The fire is estimated to be less than 5 acres in size at this time. Crews will remain on scene throughout the day working on containment.

Smith Mountain Lake Fire and Rescue reports a drowning last night at Mariner’s Landing in Bedford County. The victim was reported to be a 17-year-old male. Crews recovered the body last night. No word yet on the name of the victim or the circmstances of the drowning.

Roanoke County police have arrested an Illinois man in connection with Sunday’s bomb threat at Tanglewood Mall. The mall was evacuated for about five hours late Sunday afternoon while authorities searched and determined that there was no bomb. Police have charged 18-year-old Richard Clay of Rockford, Illinois with two felony counts of “communicating a threat to bomb.” He’s being held in the Roanoke County jail without bond. From Roanoke City Police:On July 16, 2015 at 9:22 p.m. Roanoke Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 3100 block of Oakland Boulevard NW. Upon arrival officers located an adult female and a two year old child who had both been shot. Roanoke Fire EMS transported both victims to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital where the child was pronounced dead. The adult female survived and is receiving treatment. Through the course off the investigation, detectives developed Warner Loving Hunter III, age 25, of Roanoke as the suspect in the shooting. The shooting occurred in the street in front of Hunter’s residence and he fled the scene in a vehicle after the incident.At approximately 1 a.m. on July 17th, Hunter was taken into custody by officers with Virginia State Police and Covington Police at a residence in Covington. He will be transported to the Roanoke City Jail.

From the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office: Sheriff Ronnie Sprinkle reports that on Tuesday afternoon July 14, his Department received two calls of residential burglaries in the Blue Ridge area of the County. Based upon evidence from the scene, including photographic surveillance, his Investigators were able to develop a suspect and suspect vehicle. Warrants were obtained for Matthew D. Meade age 31 of Troutville VA. During the investigation, his Investigators were able to recover property stolen from one of the homes at a Roanoke area Pawn Shop about five minutes after Meade had sold them. Botetourt County Investigators were able to locate Meade Wednesday afternoon in Bedford County where he was arrested and taken into custody by Bedford County Deputies. Meade has been charged with Breaking and Entering, Grand Larceny and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, more charges could follow at the October term of the Botetourt County Grand Jury. Meade is currently being held in the Botetourt County Jail without bond.
