The man dubbed the “Granddad Bandit” pleaded guilty in Richmond today to robbing 26 banks in 15 states, including the downtown Roanoke Valley Bank branch in May of 2009. As part of the plea agreement, federal prosecutors and attorneys for 53-year-old Michael Mara of Baton Rouge, Louisiana jointly recommend a 25-year prison term. A federal judge will pass sentence in May.
