An atheist and agnostic group appears ready to file suit against Giles County schools for posting the Ten Commandments inside school buildings. The Freedom from Religion Foundation says it has two families with children in the school system ready to act as plaintiffs. The word came out during the foundation’s recent “Freethought Radio” program. News/Talk 960’s Evan Jones has more on the the broadcast and the group behind it.

A morning fire damaged Action Auto Painting and Body works on Williamson Road, but the fire suppression system apparently prevented it from being a lot worse. As News/Talk 960’s Evan Jones reports, the person who spotted the fire has been through this before.

A new video posted on YouTube shows the male striptease by a city library employee in downtown Roanoke last weekend was very much a planned event, at least for the person who performed it. News/Talk 960’s Evan Jones has the story.

The man dubbed the “Granddad Bandit” pleaded guilty in Richmond today to robbing 26 banks in 15 states, including the downtown Roanoke Valley Bank branch in May of 2009. As part of the plea agreement, federal prosecutors and attorneys for 53-year-old Michael Mara of Baton Rouge, Louisiana jointly recommend a 25-year prison term. A federal judge will pass sentence in May.
