The Ten Commandments are going back up in Giles County Schools. The Giles County School Board voted Tuesday to erect a display that includes the commandments with other historic documents. The hope is to present the commandments in a context courts would rule as historic in nature, not religious. But as News/Talk 960’s Evan Jones reports, a legal challenge now seems inevitable.

Roanoke firefighters needed more than one hour to declare a fire at the former Villa Heights Recreation Center under control. They were sent out shortly after 1:30, and arriving units reported flames on the ground floor and heavy smoke. A short time later, commanders ordered all firefighters out of the building. The former center building has been vacant and unused for about four years.

A Rocky Mount newspaper says it has an audio recording of Franklin County Dispatch center calls from Memorial Day, the day a county deputy allegedly murdered his former wife in Roanoke. The transcript quotes the sheriff as telling dispatchers they should not call Salem or Roanoke County Police, that he will do it himself. More from News/Talk 960 WFIR.

Roanoke City has released the transcript of the city’s dispatch center call to Franklin County in the minutes after Jennifer Agee was shot to death Monday in the Sheetz parking lot. According to the transcript, a Franklin County dispatcher says Sheriff Ewell Hunt instructed dispatchers not to circulate word that Deputy Jonathan Agee was in a patrol car and threatening to kill his former wife.
