$5 rabies shots offered at Roanoke Valley clinic

Rabies cases are on the rise, with four reported in the past ten days in the Roanoke area.  Robert Parker with the Virginia Health Department says it’s a good time to take advantage of low-cost rabies vaccination clinics.  The Salem Civic Center plays host to a big clinic Saturday, April 16.

Parker says rabies shows up most often in raccoons, skunks and foxes.  So far this year in the Roanoke/Alleghany region, 18 cases have been reported, compared to 41 cases reported all of last year.

He recommends registering on-line for the clinic Saturday, April 16 at the Salem Civic Center.  The clinic is from 9:00 a.m. to noon.  Up to 1,000 doses will be given out.  The $5 fee is cash only, dogs and cats must be at least three months old and on a leash or in a carrier.
