wfir-defaultThey call it “Body by Parkway” – groups of runners showing up at Parkway Brewing Company in Salem on Thursday nights to run on the Hanging Rock Trail – many then stay for a pint or two.  The Body by Parkway runs now start at 5:30 after the time change.  Bring a light as you may be running in the dark. Patrick Woodford of RunAbout Sports helps lead the 3-to-4 mile runs.  He says some weeks 30 to 40 runners are now taking part. Woodford also says don’t forget to get your Parkway punchcard:

 

Berglund coliseum upgradesIts not your grandfather’s coliseum any more – the Berglund Center cut the ribbon this morning, showing off two million dollars of renovations that include LED lighting, new seats in blue, maroon and black – and new paint. General manager Robyn Schon expects patrons to be excited. Virginia Tech hockey fans will get the first look at the upgrade with home games this weekend:

Cave Spring supervisor Charlotte Moore now says she WILL ask for a vote recount after being unsure of that right after the election results last night showed her losing to challenger George Assaid by 3 votes. Moore says Assaid was “respectful” when she informed him of her decision this morning. The two-term incumbent isn’t sure when a recount of the 8 Roanoke County precincts in question will take place. Moore says she made that decision with the voters in mind:

WFIR Health NewsFor the first time ever Jefferson College of Health Sciences in downtown Roanoke will offer Doctoral degrees beginning in September 2016. The Doctorates of Nursing Practices and of Health Sciences are largely on-line and can be taken on a part-time basis. Jefferson College is also establishing a “School of Graduate and Professional Studies” at the same time.  School president N.L. Bishop made the announcement this morning:
