News release from Salem Police:

On Monday, March 28, 2011 at approximately 10:43 p.m., the Salem Police Department responded to a call of shots being fired in the area of Otter Ave. Further investigation revealed that two female victims were seated in a vehicle in the 100 block of Otter Ave. when they were approached by two males. One of the men had a handgun and the other suspect also may have been armed.

The suspects attempted to remove the victims from their vehicle at gunpoint. The victims were able to drive away from the suspects, but as they pulled away, the suspects discharged a firearm into the vehicle and one of the victims received a minor injury – possibly from shattered glass.

The suspects fled in their vehicle traveling west on E. Main St. and then south on Electric Rd. The victims followed the suspects’ vehicle while contacting the Salem Police Department. Officers located the suspects’ vehicle on Electric Rd. and engaged in pursuit of the car in the direction of the Electric Rd. and Roanoke Boulevard intersection.

The pursuit ended in the area of the General Electric plant when four occupants of the suspects’ vehicle exited the car and fled on foot. Two of the suspects were apprehended in the area of the plant and the other two suspects were not located after a search of the area.

The two suspects who were apprehended have been identified as:
Jason Dale Thomas 33-years-old of Roanoke
Jarrell Antwan Snyder 26-years-old of Roanoke

Both men have been charged with: Attempted Carjacking Conspiracy to Commit Carjacking Use of a Firearm while Committing Carjacking 2 Counts of Attempted Malicious Wounding Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. In addition, Thomas also was charged with: Failure to Stop for Police Driving on a Suspended Operator’s License
Both men are being held in the Roanoke County-Salem Jail without Bond. The identity of the other two suspects has yet to be determined as Salem Police continue to investigate.
