The U.S. Department of Agriculture claims 21 million children receive free or reduced-cost lunches during the school year – and most have no place to turn during the summer … WFIR’s Gene Marrano has more on a collaboration between the YMCA, Roanoke City Schools and the public library system:

Rescue-MissionA vehicle hit a utility pole in Roanoke this morning … knocking out power to more than 100 APCO customers – including the Roanoke Rescue Mission on 4th Street … The Towers Kroger store provided the milk for breakfast … lunch will be cold and includes “finger foods” … Development Director Tracy Altizer said it has presented some challenges … she also says they’ve been told power to the Rescue Mission should be restored early this afternoon.
