The Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs will try to get off the “schneid” this weekend with two home games against Fayetteville tonight and tomorrow – the Dawgs have lost 7 straight. Coach Sam Ftorek says there’s a chance to lighten up tomorrow at the Berglund Center when fans toss new “teddy bears” on to the ice after the team scores its first goal. Dawgs players will help collect all those teddy bears tomorrow before the game resumes.

WFIR---local-businessCanada-based Canatal Steel USA will invest 1-point-5 million dollars at its Botetourt County facility in Cloverdale. That announcement was made this afternoon, an investment that will be targeted for new steel structure fabricating equipment – the expansion is also expected to create 38 jobs. 80 people work there now; the plant opened in 2010.

“Canatal Steel USA’s expansion is a great testament to Virginia’s business environment and infrastructure that promotes the success of businesses of all sizes,” said Governor McAuliffe.  The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Botetourt County and the Roanoke Regional Partnership to secure the project.
