Preserve Bent Mountain and other groups that want to stop the Mountain Valley Pipeline from being built in Roanoke County and other localities welcomed Environmental Activist Lois Gibbs to Bent Mountain today. Gibbs gained notoriety in the 1970’s when she brought pollution from the Love Canal in upstate New York to light. Gibbs and officials from the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League finished an 8-day tour of the proposed Mountain Valley Pipeline route with an event on Bent Mountain today.

Sunday marks 10 years since a troubled student gunman killed 32 schoolmates and faculty members – and wounded many others – on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg. On Saturday many will note the somber occasion with a “Run in Remembrance” as WFIR’s Gene Marrano reports:

The Roanoke City Police Department now has a patrol car featuring “Help Save the Next Girl” decals – the program created by Roanoker Gil Harrington after the murder of her daughter Morgan. “Help Save the Next Girl” is focused on teaching young women to be more street-smart. There are now more than 50 chapters around the country. Another Roanoke City patrol car features decals related to the dangers of human trafficking. Sgt.
