SCAM-ALERTTues., June 17, 2014 From Salem Police:

The Salem Police Department has received at least one complaint regarding a telephone scam where the caller is posing as a collections agent for one of the following three entities, “Utility  company”, “AEP”, or “Salem Municipal Office” and threatening to cut off electricity services if a specific payment is not received for an overdue utility bill. The caller requested the money be wired to him from a Kroger Store. Do not consent to this request and contact your local police department to document the incident. City of Salem residents and businesses receive a monthly statement for the billing of utilities. Payment can only be remitted in person or by mail. You will never be contacted by a City of Salem employee and asked to wire money regarding your utility bill.
